Abstract
An Al2O3 coating on a A3 steel substrate was prepared by sol-gel method with Al powder, Al(NO3)3, and NH3·H2O as raw materials. To understand the influence of the Al powder, the sintering temperature and the sol viscosity on the corrosion resistance of Al2O3 coatings, the corrosion behaviors were investigated in HCl, NaOH and NaCl aqueous solutions. The results indicate that the corrosion resistance of the coating, made by adding Al powder during the process, is better, and Al2O3 coatings corroded in NaOH solution more than in HCl. The corrosion-resistance of the coating enhances with the increase of the sintering temperature and the sol viscosity
